The Selection Event Volunteers for the London 2012 Olympics have just finished the first 3-month block of interviews, interviewing over 10,000 Games Maker applicants.

All the SEVs were invited to an end of block party and the London ExCel Conference Centre where the interviews take place.

We had a surprise guest speaker; Ben Hunt-Davis MBE, who won a gold medal in Rowing for the British team in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

I was quite chuffed at how friendly and approachable he was. We had a bit of a chat and I was able to get a few sneaky pics of him and the medal.

I think I'm going to start keeping an e-journal of my time as a London 2012 Olympics Games Maker Selection Event Volunteer.

Whoa, a bit of a mouthful to start with eh. OK, for those of you who don't know, the Olympics are made possible only with the help of volunteers, a process pioneered at the London 1948 Olympics. Now the Olympics return to the Capital and I've been selected to help recruit some of the 70,000 volunteers needed to make the 2012 games possible. These volunteers are dubbed Games Makers as without them, the games just could not go ahead.

The people who interview the potential Games Makers are part of a team called SEVs; Selection Event Volunteers. I actually became aware of the SEV position through my application to become a Games Maker. I was shortlisted and then successfully recruited in late 2010.

I have yet to receive my interview date but will post on here when it comes through.
